Power prices went down last year

Overall power prices for King Country Energy customers actually went down last year and were probably the lowest in the country. Deputy chairman Gordon Gower reported to the June

board meeting that the overall price of power sold by King Country Energy dropped from 7.58c to 7.36c per unit. The board also reduced the level of cross subsidy between its customer groups by

raising domestic prices by five per cent, coupled with a very small commercial rise and a reduction in industrial rates. The rise in domestic prices was offset by an increased range of tariff

options which enabled customers to choose tariffs which better reflected their lifestyles. An overall growth in electricity saies of 4.09% was made up from a 2.27% domestic increase, 9.82%

commercial increase and a 3.28% industrial decrease. Mr Gower said the commercial and domestic usage reflected the good ski season. Industrial saies were

down because of less use by AFFCO, sawmills and quarries, although it was interesting to note that AFFCO put through more stock numbers last year, but had improved their efficiency in energy use.
