Share the burden

• The Waimarino Ratepayers Association is pleased that the Ruapehu District Council recently recognised the validity of the association's claim that the Waimarino had been unfairly treated by the imposition of the Council's original rating philosophy. The adoption of a seperate roading component in the rate structure will we hope go some way towards lessening the previously proposed draconian rate increase in the rural ward.. However we are concerned that the promised advantages of amalgamation show scant signs of emerging. The total rate take has not been reduced. In fact when the increased charges for services are taken into account the total revenue collected by council from its citizens is well up. We are concerned that new borrowing of $1.3 million is proposed. Should not the council be looking rather at reducing executive salaries and meeting allowances? This last item reached a whopping $450,000 in the last financial year. Executives and elected representatives, your ratepayers are hurting. You should share these toueh times.

Secretary Waimarino Ratepayers Association Truck parking solution • I too have been anxiously waiting, for twelve months, for

something to be done to rectify the haphazard parking of trucks on S.H. 1 at Waiouru. The trucks not only prevent any clear vision at the intersection of S.H. 1 and S.H. 49, which will I'm sure lead to an accident. Also their parking on the grassed area has created a quagmire. So it was with interest that I read the article in the Bulletin; "Truck parking solution", but what a disappointment! Creating a truck park between S.H. 1 and S.H. 49 is no different to the present situation. Surely there is ample parking behind the main street by the railway line for any number of trucks and trailers. I'm disappointed that Waiouru's main street may become a truck park; especially when I read on in the Bulletin and my attention is focused on the heading "Waiouru Beauty Project". I see no beauty in a truck park!!! Tru.ck.ie Manunui reunion The Mananui school in the heart of the King Country will be holding its 85th jubilee on February 29 and March 1 in 1992. Past pupils, teachers and school committee members are welcome to help celebrate this very important occasion with us.
