Raetihi improves
Raetihi put up a vastly improved performance against a strong Waverley side at Raetihi on Saturday. Raetihi had led 6-4 at half time and 15-13 with ten minutes to go but Waverley scored two tries in the last few minutes to win 23-15. The game was entertaining with both sides prepared to throw the ball around. Waverley though with their fast skilled outside backs put Raetihi under extreme pressure whenever they received the ball. The former Wanganui player Derek Brown was
outstanding. He was well supported by winger Chris Carrick who was rewarded with two tries, and from Sam Lennox who controlled their back line well at first five. The Raetihi forwards had the better of their Waverley counterparts. Stuart Ngatai has added cohesion to the pack and this allowed the loose forwards Paul Trow, William McDonnell and Les Parr to have strong games in the loose. Brendon Kavanagh and Aaron McCann continued to develop their understanding as the inside back combination
and as a result both had good games. Mark Donghi continued to show outstanding form on the wing and Wayne Te Huia at full back had one of his best games for some time. Scorers; Waverley Tries Chris Carrick two, Ricky Norman, and Derek Brooks Sam Lennox one penalty and two conversions. Raetihi Paul Trow a try and Mark Donghi one conversion and three peanlties. The Raetihi team travels to Bulls next week. Supporters are welcome to travel on the bus. Team committment at training this week should ensure their first competition win of the season.
