Whakapapa opens for beginners

Whakapapa opened their beginner ski facilities in Happy Valley on Saturday thanks to snowmaking. Over the previous 10 days snow was made to enable limited skiing from three rope tows. The ski school, ski shop and cafeteria also operated. Early purchase season passes were available from the customer service office. Sightseers can take in the views from the upper part of the skifield by

riding the Centennial and Waterfall Express Chairlifts. These will continue to operate on weekends "We have an excellent base on the upper part of the mountain and hopefully we will be able to offer intermediate skiing on these slopes before the end of June" said Dave Mazey General Manager "It is certainly very satisfying to now be able to open the ski season in Happy Valley at this early date"
