Che Wilson 15 and Awhina Edwards recently represented their school at the King Country area speech compedtion in Taumarunui, against speakers from Tongiriro High School and Taumarunui College.
The competition was run by Jaycees. Both speakers emerged as winners and finalists in the Waikato regional speech finals held at Taumarunui on Saturday. Once again the sole male speaker Che and a Hamilton teenager won the event, and the right to represent their respective regions in area finals where speakers from North Cape to the Wairarapa will be represented. If successful Che will travel to the 'Youth Speak for New Zealand' three day conference to
be held in New Plymouth later this year. He has already committed to memory his eight to ten minute speech titled The Changing Youth of a Changing New Zealand.' Che says he is looking forward to further competition. He has made special mention of Sue Murdie, for her help and support in preparing for the event. Both Ruapehu College pupils enjoyed a 15 minute jet boat ride down the Wanganui River at the weekend, as their prize for winning the area competition.
