Winter games support discussed

Ways to help the Winter Games group in their project were discussed at the recent Waimarino District Council meeting. Mayor Garrick Workman had started the discussion by asking the community board if they

thought there were ways the council could be more supportive of the Winter Games. This followed the council's decision not to waive the road closure fees as the group had requested. Acting chairman Bruce Thompson asked if anything had been done, and

was told the council had brought forward the resealing of the Christie Park netball courts. Cr Ellen Gould said the Junior Council had the jump on the community board, having already met with organiser Andreas Hefti to discuss the games.

Cr Bill Peach suggested the board invite the NZWG committee to make submissions for help. Mr Thompson suggested the council could help in non-finan-cial ways such as supplying labour nearer the time.
