Tall Stories
Maybe it's got something to do with the altitude around here but the Waimarino seems to abound with stories that stretch the plausibility belt, but are labelled 'true' Here's the first for our new Tall Stories column. A local automotive man (there, you see! The story must be true!) tells this one and swears by it! Warren Swain was driving up the Parapara one dark, dark night in his wee MGBGT sports car a few years ago. He drove around a corner (well, quite a few corhers if you want it to be truthful) and there! Smack in the middle of the Road! A big black cow! jTlausible so far isn'i-ii?) He threw all his driving expertise into swerving around the cow without hitting the bank on the right, the trees on the left and the cliff past the middle. Having got safely past the beast he straitened up, only to spot another even closer to his driving line. Missing this cow by the thickness of an old foil milk bottle top was not easy but he did it. BUT of course the cow was close enpugh to lick his face. And it did! By golly the cow just flicked out its tongue and slapped him one on the mush, just as he shifted into third gear to accelerate away from the scene!
