Polocrosse player returns

Kay Nitschke, captain of the New Zealand Ladies Polocrosse team, has recently returned from playing a two test series in Australia.

New Zealand won the first test at Maitland (New South Wales) 1413 in a closely fought match which could have

gone either way, but were convincingly beaten in the second 289 in the second test at Warwick (Queensland). The two teams were playing for the Sonny Bolstad Memorial Trophy, which Australia won with a better goal average. The memorial trophy was presented by the family of the late Sonny Bolstad in 1988 when Australia won the drawn series in New Zealand with a better goal average. Sonny Bolstad had been selected as the New Zealand coach for the Australian visit but was killed in a logging accident before the visit. While in Australia the New Zealanders borrowed mounts and when they moved to Warwick they changed their horses, while the Australians rode their own horses. Mrs Nitschke rode a grey called Coachline for the first test and a horse called Fidget for the second. Cameron Shepherd, owner of Fidget, won a

saddle for the best horse ' loaned to a New Zealander. "The Australian horses were good, we were really pleased with them," said Mrs Nitschke. Each member of the New Zealand team was presented with a polocrosse racquet after the second test. "Polocrosse is very big in Australia and we got a lot of publicity while we were over there including television interviews," said Mrs Nitschke. Mrs Nitschke appreciates the sponsorship from the TaihapeWaimarino Veterinary Clinic and Kakatahi Polocrosse Club which made the trip possible.
