Despite a wet night and a few spots of rain early in the morning the weather held for the Queen's Birthday Gokart races in Ohakune, with some good keen racing by those karters who travelled to the event. Results: KT light. 1st Leigh T idm an (Taumarunui); 2nd Dareen Aislebie (Te Puke); 3rd Shane Spicer (Taumarunui). KT heavy. lst Danny McCort (Rotorua); 2nd Rowan Eves (Taumarunui); 3rd Russell McLean (Taumarunui). Open B. Michael Nagle (Taumarunui); 2nd bill Goodwin (Taumarunui); 3rd Ivan Bevis (Taumarunui). Grand Prix. lst Leigh Tidman (Taumarunui); 2nd Shane Spicer (Taumarunui); 3rd Danny McCort (Rotorua). It was a two day racing weekend for Bill Goodwin as he raced at Mansfield the previous day in
the North Island Road Race Championships, bringing home second place in the 125cc class, and again in Ohakune
giving an excellent display. We also saw Bruce Weeks give a demonstration in his winning formula E super
kart as he also raced at Mansfield. Thank you to all sponsors in the Waimarino.
New forests are greener than old forests. Young forests absorb lots of carbon dioxide while old forests tend to release as much as they absorb, the Bulletin has been informed. This is because young forests, under 30 years old, are absorbing C02 flat out
while old forests are loosing trees and branches etc which rot, releasing C02, balancing their equation. This means that Karioi Forest, for example, is "greener" than the bush in the Department of Conservation's Tongariro National Park, because it absorbs much
more carbon than it releases. The 13,000 hectares of Pinus radiata at Karioi under 30 years old absorb 7.5 tonnes of carbon annually, which adds up to 101,250 tonnes of carbon absorbed from the Waimarino atmosphere.
