Shooter qualifies for Olympics
Skeet shooter Phil Garland has qualified for the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. At a special 200 target shoot in Christchurch, Phil shot more than the 1 84 targets needed to qualify. Phil has set up his own skeet field at home and has made an all out effort to qualify. He went to Seoul and Australia earlier in the year with the hope of qualifying. Tim Dobbs, from the South Island, who qualified in Seoul is the only other shooter to reach the qualifying standard. After the nationals in November 1990 there were only six shooters in New Zealand who jcould possibly qualify for Barcelona. There is another chance for the remaining shooters to qualify at a special shoot at Waitamata later in the year. Although the shooters have qualified to go to Barcelona there is no guarantee that they will send a shooting team
