OHAKUNE DISTRICT COURT

Remanded for report Thomas Treanor, 44, farmer of Pipiriki, pleaded guilty at the Ohakune District Court this month to three charges of receiving property knowing that it had been stolen or dishonestly obtained . These charges included receiving four shearing plants and a shearing grinder valued at $2600, receiving a Yanman generator valued at $6000 and a Suzuki 4WD motorcycle valued at $5000. Damage to the value of $3000 to the Suzuki 4WD motorcycle was sought. Dqfendant was convicted and remanded for a probation officer's report and sentence as well as a reparation report in order to assess defendant's circumstances under such serious charges, Judge Watson observed that defendant, through his legal counsel, was relieved to finally face up and come to terms with his problems. Counsel: Brian Mason Two Charges George Wikohika, 35, painter of Waiouru, pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary in Waiouru on 27 March and was remanded on bail to appear in the Ohakune District Court

on 13 June for a probation officer's report and sentence. On another charge of driving while disqualified in Whakatane he was remanded on bail to appear in the Whakatane District Court on 1 August. Counsel: Brian Mason Changed plea Brendon Allan Young, 21, unemployed of Ohakune, was to have appeared to defend a charge of driving while disqualified iji Old Station Road, Ohakune on 7 March but changed his plea to guilty after taking legal advice., Court heard how defendant believed that by riding a trail-bike along the grass verge at the side of the road near his home he was not breaking the law. However when told the grass verge constituted part of the road reserve he pleaded guilty. In convicting defendant, Judge Watson said

he had first considered a community based sentence but on checking defendant's past record of offending, including five drink\driving charges and four charges of driving while disqualified, Judge Watson said he would call for a probation report in order to help defendant "break this cycle of offending". Defendant was remanded on bail to appear on 13 June for a probation officer's report and sentence.
