Ski industry power saies high
More than half of King Country Energy's non domestic power saies are to the accommodation industry new statistics have shown. This highlights the need for the board to get behind the ski industry, general manager Peter Till said at the May meeting. Board member Kit Wilson said it was easy to support projects like Turoa in light of the new figures and it would have made the decision to get involved a lot easier had they known at the time. Board members " were told unit saies for April were up 10.57 per cent on the same time last year with colder weather said to be the reason. And according to board member Bill Peach, this might be just the start. He said there has been a lot of interest in Ohakune already this winter, with all houses full and bookings flooding in. The town has been very busy since Easter, with a lot of work going on. Mr Peach said it appears that people are putting off buying big ticket items, but they're still going to have their leisure. And board colleague Tony Palmer said a good ski season this year should see an early start to it next year.
