Rate dates
The next Ruapehu District Council rate instalment is due Friday 21 June and penalty charges are applied on the Saturday 22 June. It has been pointed out to the Bulletin by a reader that this is the second time the penalty date has fallen on a Saturday, but the council's revenue accountant Carl Perrin told the Bulletin that this is deliberate. "It is very clearly stated on the bottom of the rate demand that the rates are due on Friday 21 June," said Mr Perrin.
He said thc council had decided to set the due date as Friday, being the end of the week and to make Saturday the day for applying the penalty. Mr Perrin said in his long experience of collecting rates the present RDC form is the clearest and easiest to understand that he has seen, and did not agree with the claim that it could cause confusion, with people believing they could pay on the Saturday, or indeed the Monday being the next business day, to avoid the penalty.
