Mail services cut

From yesterday the mail is only being cleared once a day from both Raetihi and Ohakune. Ohakune's clearance is at 1pm and Raetihi at 1.15pm for both fast post and ordinary mail. This means that any mail brought in by rural delivery for posting will not go until the next day. Ruapehu district mayor Garrick Workman has expressed his anger at the reduction. "There appears to be no turning back because there was no consultation with the community," said mayor Workman. "I suppose it is designed to save money but it is cutting into more rural services which is particularly infuriating. We will try to encourage them to consider other options available."

Until this week the mail was cleared twice a day from both towns

with fast post going at lunch time and ordinary mail between 4pm-5pm.
