MACCESS students, under the guidance of tutor Karney Herewini, are working on extensions to the Kohanga Reo building at the Maungarongo Marae. The extensions will allow two groups of different ages to be catered for in their own space at the kohanga reo. The MACCESS trainees are learning carpentry skills literally from the ground up, from laying the foundations to roofing, to inside finishing work. Mr Herewini said most of them had to learn how to handle a hammer properly at the start of the course and were now progressing very well. Also on the job were the plumbing and drain laying trainees under the tutorial of Hune Rapana.
