Car accident victim dies
There was a two vehicle collision on Ohakune Road about five km from Raetihi on Wednesday. The head on collision happened about 4pm and involved a light truck and a car. Both the Raetihi and Ohakune Fire Brigades attended the accident. The drivers of both vehicles and the passenger in the light truck had to be cut from
the vehicles. A helicopter from Wanganui flew a doctor to the scene of the accident and the seriously injured man Peter Blomfield was taken by helicopter toward Wanganui but due to the poor weather conditions the helicopter had to return to Raetihi. The Waimarino rescue helicopter with two patients John Geenwood and his 16 year old daughter Paula on board had not left Raetihi and so all three patients were taken by ambulance to Wanganui. Mr Blomfield was later transferred to Wellington hospital where he died on Friday. John and Paula Greenwood are still in Wanganui hospital in a comfortable condition.
