Raetihi Rugby

BY

DOUG

MCLEAN

Waiouru defeated Raetihi by a massive 43-3 points on Saturdday. However the Raetihi forwards took the game to the formidable Waiouru pack and at times marched them back in the set pieces. The Waiouru team as a result named the Raetihi pack as its 'man of the match'! Raetihi led for the first fifteen minutes of the game but trailed 12-3 at half time. In the last 20 minutes of the game Waiouru took advantage of Raetihi backline errors and converted them into points. According to some Raetihi supporters the final score was flattering to the victors. Pedro Van der Ent Mike Clark and Tim Coombes played well in the Waiouru backline. Number 8 Tom Hullena and lock Darryl Pat-

terson played well in the forwards. Tom Rawiri led his Raetihi forward pack well. He was ably supported by his flankers Chris Bennett and Paul

Trow. Aaron McCann continued his improvement at halfback and provided good service to his backline. George Henana and Paul Jones contributed well in mid

field. Congratulations must go to Waiouru for winning the Northern Wanganui competition. Waiouru points; Tim Coombes 3 tries, Pedro

Van der Ent 2, Craig Haukuma Patrick Sullivan tries, Rob Barclay 3 conversions and 3 penalties. Raetihi 3; Wayne Te Huia penalty.
