Ducks, pellets, feathers flew!

The opening weekend of this years duckshooting season got off to a good start. There appeared to be a good number of shooters out and about in the Waimarino with some limit bags being taken. A group of 11 shoot-

ers from Auckland Whakatane and Otaki as well as local shooters had a successful weekend taking near limit bags of mainly mallard and paradise ducks over the weekend. This group who base themselves at Gavin Brown's Middle

Road home each year have over the years spent a lot of time building dams and encouraging the duck population. Over the years they have worked out a well organised rotitine for plucking and cleaning the ducks. This year

they used a new duck plucking machine designed and built by John Cowan. At Roke's property six Canada geese were taken by shooters, some of whom took the limit of two as well as near-limit bags of other ducks.
