Pony club news

The Waimarino Pony Club team of Melanie Mitchell (Ohakune Branch) and Katrina Wilson (Raetihi Branch) represented the club well at the recent North Island Team Event hosted by the Timberlands Pony Club at Tokoroa. Although four members must complete the course to have a team score our members took part for the experience. The first day had all team members ride their dressage tests simultaneously and in ring one. Melanie finished 4th equal and went clear in show jumping against 46 others in her ring. Katrina's pony did not settle as well probably due to an overbundance of fresh grass from the dairy farm where they were billetted. Roles changed the next day with Katrina recording a clear cross country and Melani having two stops, described as a good effort in her first venture into open competition. Both riders finished on very respectable scores. The new horse covers

and saddle blankets in club colours purchased with the aid of subsidy from the Hillary commission Local Recreation and Sports Scheme proved very satisfactory and should last for years to come. Thanks went to the club for subsidising the transport, Kit Wilson for driving, the Nicholas family hosts in Tokoroa and the Timberlands P.C. for running the event of 47 teams consisting of 267 competitors so efficiently. The shop day held on Tuesday in Ohakune was successful.

Cindy Lagdon (Raetihi branch) will be Waimarino's sole representative in the King Country team at Pukekohe. The K.C. Dressage team included Vicky Pearson(Raetihi branch) and Fiona Evans (Ohakune branch) and their horses were transported to Gisborne by Brian Stratford of Kaitieke with the rest of the team and the riders driven to Gisborne by Mrs Jill Evans. While the team was not among the award winners they gained valuable experience at a high level of competition.
