Netball umpires defended
After a terrible week of wet weather Saturday tumed out to be a perfect day for Ruapehu netball. Some very close games in both grades were played. According to organisers it still appears that some umpires are being subjected to unnecessary criticism from both players and spectators. "Just remember it is easy to know better when you are not in control of a whistle and standing on the court or the sideline," said one organiser. "We expect players to be more understanding, as it is very noticeable on Saturdays when teams have umpire duties, it is usually the same people doing the duty, not the ones that seem to know the rules
better. "We must all remember these people are doing their best by making themselves available, without them it is quite simple - no netball. "So next time someone is doing their best, before anyone complains, think to yourselves, do I have the courage to get out there with a whistle. Most important it is the sport we are there for not gold medals."
