Siggy to France

When Siggy Bauer left for France on Tuesday 23 April he took with him a letter of introduction from Garrick Workman, mayor of Ruapehu District Council, to the mayor of Surgeres. The letter from Mayor Workman contains greetings and information about Raetihi, Waimarino and Ruapehu making special mention of the mountains, rivers, parks and outdoor activities in the area. Siggy has been invited to run in a 48 hour ultra-long-distance race 1 presented by the mayor's office. Surgeres is in the South-west of France, inland from La Rochelie.

The 48 hour race at Surgeres is an International championship race by invitation only and Siggy is the only person in the southern hemisphere to be invited. There is a field of 25 runners mostly from Europe and USA. The race is being run from 7-9 May and Siggy has gone early to acclimatize before the race. It is necessary to adjust to the time zone and the temperature as it is going from spring to summer in Europe. Before returning to New Zealand Siggy will be visiting Family in Germany.
