Suspicious house fire in Raetihi

The Raetihi brigade answered a call to a house fire at 10.41pm on Friday and by the time the brigade arrived at the unoccupied house behind Webb's Garage it was well ablaze. Two engines attended the fire which took over two hours to put out. Breathing apparatus was used to get to the seat of the fire. The fire started under suspicious circum-

stances according to Chief Officer Alec Weir. Once again the brigade used the lighting plant donated by service clubs. "It was very useful as once the flames had gone it was pitch black as there were no street lights," said Chief Officer Alec Weir. On Saturday morning the brigade was called back to the house on a justified false alarm when it was thought that smoke was coming from the house.
