Ohakune - Karioi win in local clash

Ohakune-Karioi defeated Raetihi 21 - 3 at Rugby on Saturday. Many felt the score was not a fair indication of the game as territorially the game was virtually even. Ohakune won because they had the better of the set pieces. Lachlan Harding converted Raetihi's mistakes to points. The Ohakune backs looked good but they couldn't breach the solid defence of their Raetihi opponents. Blair Hope and Chris
Bennett were quick to the loose ball for Raetihi but they were not supported by the rest of the forwards. Ohakune arrived in numbers and as a result had most of the second phase possession. The game was not a great spectacle as there were too many errors. Even so, interest was high because of the traditional rivalry between the two teams. Ray Brown directed play well for Ohakune as first five eight while props Kerry Brown and Micheal Wills had excellent games.
Lachlan Harding was a dominant figure at fullback. Anthony Callaghan directed play well for Raetihi while Darren McDonnell continued his good form in
midfield. Scorers: Ohakune Lachlan Harding three penalties and two conversions. Tries to Micheal Wills and Grant Barrett. Raetihi penalty to Anthony Callaghan.
