New hair care service for Ohakune
Recognising a demand for their style of service, Headquarters For Hair of Waiouru are opening a salon in Ohakune this month. Michelle Eaton said she and her staff already have a large number of Ohakune clients who travel to Waiouru to have their hair cared for and so it seemed only logical to set up in Ohakune. The salon, in Clyde Street behind Harris Tansey & Harvey's offices, will be operated by Michelle and her apprentice Polly Condon Saturdays, Mondays and Tuesdays and by Mellisa Farmer with help from Polly on Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays. Michelle will continue to offer her services in Waiouru when she's not in Ohakune and Louise Shepherd will fill in the other days so the Waiouru
in business salon will still be open its present hours. Also, Amanda Streeter of Ohakune is to become permanent part-time in helping them handle the workload. "We've made these operating arrangements so that we can look after our own personal Ohakune clients as well as Waiouru clients," said Michelle. "Many people like to keep to the same hairdresser so this way they will be able to do that without having to travel to or from Waiouru." She said they plan to operate the salon for a year and then review the situation - with a possibility of expanding the business. One feature of the plan is to operate to flexible
hours on Saturdays, especially in the ski season, with clients able to make appointments on Saturdays if that suits them betfer. Ski season visitors will also then be able to have their hair cared for on the weekend. The Saturday hours will probably be from 9am to 12pm, by appointment, until winter and then they plan to try a 3pm to 7pm service. With the changes clients will have a range of hairdressers through 'Headquarters", depending on the service they want. While all are good allrounders, each has their own special favourite hair care service. Amanda, who has 11 years" experience starting in New Plymouth where
she managed her own salon and earned her advanced trade certificate, likes working with colour. Mellisa, with three years" experience, says she could perm and style hair all day. Louise, who
has five years' experience in Auckland and Christchurch, enjoys using her consultation and special cutting skills. Polly is showing great promise, especially with her chair-side manner and
is doing really well in her second year of apprenticeship. Polly is following in her boss's (Michelle) footsteps and heading for competitions where she will gain a lot of experience from seeing other
hairdressers operate. Michelle can pass on firsthand knowledge of the competition system with her 13 years' experience which includes making it to the national hairdresser competitions.
