Board calls for Turoa course checks
Ohakune could loose the Turoa Village golf course and tennis courts, the Waimarino Community Board heard at their last meeting. The board discussed the recent offer by Turoa of the facilities, for the price of one dollar. Member Winston Oliver said he understood that Turoa Ski Resort Ltd plans to "put a fence across and turn in the sheep". He said he had been approached with concerns that the company may scrap the course and close off access to the courts. Member Bruce Thompson said he was sure there was something in the original agreement between the Ohakune Borough Council and the company that the facilities were in lieu of reserves contributions. Technical Services Manager Bruce Dobson said as far as he and the town planner were aware
ther i was no such clause in the planning approval for the Turoa Alpine Village subdivi-. sion and that if such an agreement existed in writing it would have to
be a separate document. The board agreed that a subcommittee of the Ohakune members look into the matter for clarification of the legal status of the facilities.
