Ohakune gardens judged for award

Contributed for publication by the Ohakune Garden Club Sometime in February some people may have been aware of two 'respectable' ladies lurking around on the pavement outside Ohakune homes, peering over their fences and writing things in notebooks. Burglars casing their next victims? No, put your minds at rest - it was Norma Cranston and Barbara Brown judging the gardens from the street for the local Civic Pride Award. Some comments from the judges on the gardens within the bound-

aries of Ohakune were: "colour is always important, And generally speaking maintenance was not as good as in previous years". The exception however was John Hibbard's winning garden in Goldfinch street. Other place getters were: 2nd Janet Duigan in Shannon street and 3rd Ian Harrison and Bev Kerr in Arawa Street. Plants to the value of $100 have been donated by the Ruapehu District Council for prizes .Winner Mr. J. Hibbard will also receive the Civic Pride Cup donated by the Ohakune Garden Club.
