Pony club trials held

Trials to select a team to represent the King Country area at the New Zealand pony club championships at Pukekohe were completed Sunday last week at the Ongarue course. Two previous trials were held at Roke's property, Ohakune and Kaitieke with 13 riders competing for a place in

the team. Riders competed in dressage, cross country and show jumping events. Lowest scores counted. The Waimarino was represented by Kirsty Mcllroy, Vicky Pearson and Cindy Langdon (Raetihi Pony Club), with Fiona Evans and Natasha Richards from the Ohakune Club.

All competitors rode well in the three trials with tough competition, particularly in the DC section. The A1 section lacked numbers but a very high standard was achieved. Both Fiona Evans and Cindy Langdon went clear at all three trials. Cindy also obtained excellent dressage marks.

The team finally selected to represent the King Country were: DC Grade - C. Davey Ongarue, B. Cochrane Taumarunui, T. Wills Ongarue. A1 Grade - C. Langdon Raetihi, K. Stratford Kaitieke. Fundraising to assist with the team travel fund will begin shortly with a shop day in Ohakune.
