Fun finals at squash tournament
A highlight of the Waimarino Squash tournament held on 22 and 23 March was the viceversa games played in all finals. Players entered into the spirit of the event and added to the success of the weekend and some players even seemed to play better squash because of being dressed up in clothes of the opposite sex. Among the dress-ups were quite a few garter belts, lacy knickers and gaiters. Peter Barnes, wearing a blue and white striped frock and a blue ribbon in his hair, and Gary Allerby, wearing a red nightie and pink bow were judged the best couple while Grant Pope resplendent right up to a blond wig was judged the best dressed 'woman'. Ross Gillett in long bike pants and bra padded with tennis balls had the dubious honour of having the most indecent dress. Christine Rawiri had the best whiskers. Squash results: Division; 1 John Laurenson, Runner up Ross Gillett, special plate Terry Tapp, consolation plate Rick Harding, plate Marty McGrath. Div 2; Peter Barnes, runner up Gary Allerby, special plate Maree Steel, consolation plate Nancy Parata, plate Christine Rawiri. Div 3; John Binzegger, runner up Peter Anderson, special plate Phil Brown, consolation plate Jo Parkinson, plate Mary Grave. Div 4; Tom Rawiri, runner up Margaret Fowlie, special plate Melanie Anderson, consolation plate Robin Haugh, plate Michelle Haugh.
