Changes at Ohakune Catholic Church

• One feature of the current changes to the interior of the Ohakune Catholic Church is the restored Reconciliation Room, formerly called the confessional or "box". No longer in darkness, it now provides the option of open confession with priest and penitent

face to face and seated, or the more traditional kneeling behind a curtain (formerly the "grill"), preserving the mystique, and, to a point the anonymity of the penitent, if the penitent so desires. Most now prefer face to face. Preparation for this sacrament is now

normally done in common, especially at Easter and Christmas, followed by individual confession and absolution; for example - this Wednesday 27 March at 7 pm anyone is welcome to observe. Understanding the changes and meeting this changing age can be

educational and reconciliatory regarding life in general, and will be, given tolerance and goodwill. The Catholic Church here will seek opportunities to understand the changes, for Catholics and all, as the year progresses. Meantime, interested parties are welcome to call at St

Joseph's in Arawa Street, to see the church and have any changes explained to them. After Easter, the church will be used by a visiting Marist father to conduct a retreat - weekend of re- • flection on the content and direction of one's life.
