Institute meets

The Raetihi Women's Institute held its 57th annual general meeting on Thursday 7 March. The retiring president Ethel Allerby was presented with flowers and thanked for her four year's service. Officers elected were, president; Molly Sommerville, committee: E Grossart, H Wiggins, J Tod, J Nutting, G Irwin, D McNie and V Timmo. Members enjoyed a varied programme throughout the year with visitors who gave talks about; a trip through Europe, 8 days in Russia, the Community Advice Service, the history of Embroidery, and aspects of local history. Gifts of bedsocks, biscuits and jam had been given to the District Health Nurse for distribution to the "shutins". Talcum powder, tissues and a peggy square blanket were sent to hospitals and a C.W.I. cookery book was won as a prize at Ruapehu College. Senior citizens were entertained

at a birthday meeting. Members learned to make door stops from waste materials and

helped the Brownies with their 1990 project which was youth and age.
