College school council elected

BY TANIA PARKER On Tuesday 5 March the inaugural meeting of the 1991 Ruapehu College Student Council was held. The council is designed to be an organisation through which the students can put forward any opinions or ideas they have on school life. The meeting, chaired by Head Girl, Natalee Taylor and Head Boy James Allen, was mainly concerned with the creation of four subcommittees. The committees formed were, Environmental, concerned with the grounds, Liason, concerned with communications between the Council, Students and the community and sports, which is involved in running lunchtime activities and providing equipment. Also formed was the Social Committee, which

is involved in organising any discos and school social functions that are held. Decisions were also made covering the election of the Council Secretary, Awhina Edwards and Treasurer, Tui Allan. During the meeting, councillors had their constitution read and explained to them by the Chairpersons. The idea to hold a sausage sizzle in support of the Diabetes appeal has been accepted by Councillors and this will take place on April 12. The next Council meeting will be held on Friday 5 April.
