Runners have fun for Plunket
Young and old donned running shoes on Sunday for the annual Ohakune Plunket Fun Run, held in near perfect conditions. Around 80 competitors for both 4km and
8km events lined up at the region's landmark, the Big Carrot, for the start. Ages ranged from the youngest competitor, three-year old Kelvin McLeod, to grand-mother Eunice
Andrews. A number of means of transport were employed, with one youngster being pushed in a wheel barrow and another in a threewheeled pushchair after a
"blow-out" at the last corner. Fun Run veterans Wayne Streeter and Siggy Bauer set a sizzling pace in the 8km event, fighting it out neck and neck in the last 50 metres. Another runner, Rohan Kui* made an heroic effort to finish after injuring an ankle and hobbling the last part of the 8km course.
