Raetihi mum saves house

The quick action of Mrs Rose Tetawhero saved most of the family's house from fire last Wednesday. Mrs Tetawhero left the house quickly taking one of her sons who was in the bedroom where the fire started, closing the door on the fire. "Closing the door on the fire saved the rest of the house in my opinion," said Raetihi volunteer firemen John Compton and Neil McLean. The bedroom and contents were destroyed in the fire and water damaged some of the lounge, while smoke damaged the rooms and contents of the rest of the house. The cause of the fire was riot known, though it has been suggested that a vacuum cleaner motor fault started it.
