Squash meet

A meeting was held at Ruapehu College last Wednesday for anyone interested in restarting the building of Squash Courts in Ohakune. At the meeting John Laurensen who had been involved with the project in its earlier stages gave an outline of how the project started in 1980 and the steps that led to its going in to recess in 1984. Due to a number of other meetings scheduled the same night there were several apologies. All those present were enthusiastic about a facility of taking up the squash courts construction project and with the aim of having a court or courts at playable standard for the 1992 season was unanimously passed. Leslie Todd representing the Waimarino Squash Club offered their support and encouragement. Mr Hubbard spoke on behalf of the Hillary Commision stating that it was consistent with their objective of increasing participation. Some discussion was held as to the advantages/ disadvantages of alternative locations. A further public meeting will be held on Wednesday 27 March where more of those who are interested will be able to attend.
