Endurance riders report
Four local riders attended North Island Championships held at Hawkes Bay on 2 and 3 March. There were three different rides, Senior 120 km, 80 km Intermediate and Junior 80km. Lukie Albert was in Senior 120 km which was over two days, 80 ! km the first day and 40 km the following morning. He was up with the first six riders all the way. Second day took a toll on his horse and he had to withdraw following the last vet check. Lou Cadwallader was leading all the ay in the intermediate section with his colt, Toy. He
was ahead by about 45 minutes and was put out on his horses last 80 km vet check with a high heart rate. Jeff Morris was in 3rd place on first round 40 km on his horse, Flemmings Fari, then in the second round came in 4th place, and qualified, taking 3rd place. Donovan Morris was in the Junior ride of 80 km. He was up with the top five riders but some how missed a marker and ended up very early at home base to find they all had cut short their ride and had to go back up and start from where they turned off, which saw them covering 100
km in eight hours. Donovan pulled out at the 85 km point when he know he couldn't make the time. The local ride is on 16 March at Peter McDon-
nell's farm at Karioi with three rides, 80 km, 40 km, and 20 km. Anyone interested is asked to contact Rosalleen Morris (06) 3428551 or Jackie Collett on 58456 or 58891.
