Family service started
Homebuilders Family Support started its service for families in trouble on 4 March. A family is described as any individual or group caring for a child. If the family has problems related in any way to the care of the child then they can approach Homebuilders for help. The family can be referred also by community workers or groups, teachers, the police or social workers. The family can approach Homebuilders themselves for help with difficulties relating to financial, family or personal problems. To contact the Homebuilders Family Support service phone (06) 345 1636. Home builders Family Support covers the Patea, Waverley and Waitotara area, Raetihi,
Ohakune, Waiouru and Taihape, the Marton, Bulls and Turakina area, and Wanganui and the Wanganui River Valley to Pipiriki. Homebuilders provides a bicultural service to the community. Throughout the establishment of the service and training of Family Support Workers, Maori and Pakeha representatives have worked together to plan the service. The Homebuilders Family Support service is funded by the Social Welfare Department. The service is co-ordinated from 85 Bell St, Wanganui by Mary Beaumont and Heather Ranginui and employs Family Support Workers operating from Patea, Wanganui, Marton, Taihape and Raetihi. Family Support Workers are trained to provide counselling and advice in ar-
eas such as parenting and family problems. stress and depression, drugs and alcohol and other health related matters. Homebuilders is looking for paid workers in Wanganui and the Patea, Waverly and Waitotara district. Voluntary workers are being recruited throughout the whole service area. Maori and Pakeha people who are interested in being trained as Family Support Workers should contact Homebuilders. Information about the Homebuilders Family Support service is currently being sent to community workers and groups.
