Pupils work on bus garage
Under the guidance and watchful eye of tutor Noel Shepherd a group of mainly Ruapehu Collete sixth and seventh form pupils, from the construction course are building a mechanical workshop and garage for the school's bus. At present there is no place for them to work on the bus itself. It is expected that the building will take a total of five to six days' work
over about a two week period as the students are only able to work up to half a day at a time. The garage-come-workshop is being built under the Link Programme run through the Wanganui Regional Community Polytechnic. Link co-ordinator Joan Mason says it is hoped that funding will be available from Link but the building will
continue anyway. The construction course is one of several available on the Multiple Studies Programme. Several students on this programme are hoping to study related trade skills by correspondence through the Open Polytechnic as Ruapehu College is unable to provide all the necessary courses such as painting and decorating.
