Dollar price tag for golf and tennis land

Turoa Skifields has offered the Turoa Alpirie Village golf course and tennis courts to the council for the sum of $1.00. The Waimarino Community Board is to consider the offer at this week's community board meeting for recommendation to full council. In his agenda report on the offer, general manager Cliff Houston said the ski field company was restructuring its operations and wanted to put something back into the local community and were offering the land associated with the facilities so they could be available as community facilities in the future. In the report Mr Houston said the company was relocating its operations onto Mt Ruapehu which involvcd relocating their offices, workshops and other activities previously located in Ohakune. The company is also selling its interests in Beechers Lodge, the report said. Raetihi water access Another item on the agenda for the meeting is the need for proper legal access the Raetihi water reservoir. In a report from the general manager the board is told that the present access is by verbal agreement with a landowner. With recent problems with the reservoir it has become apparant that the arrangement is not satisfactory for the landowner, said the report. The access passes close by the landowner's residence and is used day and night when there are problems. Also, members of the public have used the access way thinking it was a public right-of-way, which it is not, said the report. The report states that the landowners are willing to negotiate a legal access way through another part of their property. The cost of building a new access way is estimated at $20,000. Also on the agenda for Thursday night's meeting is an application for the establishment of a bus stop in Raetihi, outside the Ritz Tearooms.
