Both are in the seventh form studying for bursary, both studying statistics, chemistry and geography. Natalee is also studying English and physics and James, accounting and biology. Natalee's sports interests include athletics, hockey, indoor soccer and basketball "at times". Her other interests include working for her parents in their carrot gardens. James is keen on skiing and tramping, is taking part in the Youth to Everest trip this year and is a Ruapehu District junior councillor. Natalee served on the Ruapehu College Board of Trustees last year.
