Success for Waiouru swimmers
The Waiouru Swimming Club recently competed in the Wanganui Age Group Championships. The championships were held over weekends 2/3 and 9/10 February. Eight club competed in the championships with swimmers aged from 7 to 16 years. Waiouru was represented by a small and young contingent who achieved very good results, said their coach, Dennis Waru. Justin Brien, David Waru, Crystal Walker, Kataraina Clarke and Oriana Paul competed in the 8yr and under section. Tanya Waru, Kerry Shaw, Serena Miller, Marcia Leow and Raymond Hinton competed in the 10 year and under section. Charmian Mateara and Tracey Hinton competed in the 11 yr and under section. 1 Tania Clarke competed in the 12 yr and under section. The swimmers achieved the following places: David 1st, boys 50m Freestyle and Breaststroke and 2nd in Butterfly. Justin 2nd 50m Freestyle. Crystal Walker 2nd, girls 50m - Butterfly and Freestyle. Justin, Oriana, Kataraina and David took 1st place in the 8yrs and under relay.- Tanya 3rd 200m freestyle, and 100m freestyle and 2nd 100m breaststroke. Kerry 2nd 100m freestyle. Serena 3rd 100m breaststroke. Tracey 3rd 200m breaststroke. Tania Clarke and Raymond Hinton also made the finals in their chosen events. Overall the swimmers represented Waiouru admirably both in and out of the water, said their coach.
