Your health is in your hands

The Waimarino's naturopath, Errol Vincent writes about the alternative health care treatment he has adopted. This is the first of an occasional series of articles about health from him. I must say how pleased I am to be back in Ohakune again, the town with natural water and fresh air, after being in Auckland where the air is laden with petrol fumes and the water carries an assortment of chemicals supposedly designed to help keep the population healthy. Since I have been back I have been busy setting up two rooms in our house as a naturopathic clinic, and now all is ready. The clinic is operating. Some of you

may have seen the advertisement in this paper announcing the opening of this clinic but are not sure what it is all about. Well, let me explain. A Naturopath is considered the GP of natural health, one who uses many difference techniques to treat a wide range of disorders. Techniques like massage to ease aches and pains, muscle release techniques to reduce stress, general osteopathic manipulations to adjust bones and muscles which are causing pain through misalignment or tension and cranio-sacral adjustments to the skull to ease headaches, ear and sinus problems. Diet modification,

mainly by the removal of foods which antagonize the body, is an extremely effective way to improve a person's health and well being. The use of herbs, both singly and in combination, is very high on the naturopath's selection of modalities. Herbs which have been tried and proven over hundreds of years, are effective in the treatment of many problems and conditions. Problems like asthma, cancer, constipation, carpal tunnel syndrome, high blood-cholesterol levels, diabetes, eczema, headaches and migraines, herpes, ulcers and varicose veins all respond well to herbal treatments and dietary

changes which stimulate the body's immune system into a healing response. So there you have it, a quick run down on some of the approaches I use as a naturopath and will be using here in Ohakune. It is interesting to know that many of the herbal combinations are now available in liquid form which makes it easy for children to take. I have found that most children respond very quickly to such herbal treatment. Remember, your health is in your hands, the life you are living is happening now. This is not a practice run. THIS IS IT. Yours in health, Errol J Vincent N.D. HbT
