Water woes blamed on maintenance

"I really think house keeping (maintenance work) of the supply lines has gotten slack," said Mr Goddard. "We've now got, too often, dirty filthy stinking water and I think it's because the hydrants are not being flushed regularly enough." Mr Goddard said several years ago there was a council worker who had a system of flushing, carried out once a week, which ensured the water was as clean as it could be given the supply problems. Mayor Garrick Workman said the council had had problems with manpower in the area which may have caused the

problems but that a foreman's position had been advertised. Mr Bruce Thompson said he had presented to council officers a list of flushing points but that no action had been taken. He asked that it be done on a regular basis from now. A poor reticulation system flushing routine has been blamed for some of Ohakune's water woes. Community Board members Ben Goddard and Bruce Thompson claimed the regular flushing of the lines was not being done and that would cause a lot of the silting problems in the water.
