Annual bridge tournament

The Bridge Club held their annual end-of-year tournament on Sunday 2 December at the Alpine Restaurant in Ohakune. Play consisted of a Howell movement for 12 pairs and was played in two sessions. There were some good boards with several slams in both sessions. The results of the day were: lst session: 1st Cherry Cranston and Jannine Oates; 2nd Tracy Ennis and Les Bums. 2nd Session: lst Rita Kaiwhare and Betty Hammond; 2nd Lynn Brannigan and Goldie Fraser. Overall winners: Harvey Kerr and Marie Perry. The Trustbank Bridge Trophy which is for the most improved junior players was awarded to Mark Hays and Bob Tumataroa. The Trophy for the most successful Ohakune players was awarded to Ron Frew and Brian Eades who edged out Rita Kaiwhare and Betty Hammond by 0.5%. After the presentation of prizes the players and their partners enjoyed the excellent smorgasbord supplied by Franz and his staff.
