Chemist to stay
Waiouru's pharmacy is here to stay and has a new pharmacist-manager, Bruce Wilde.
The owners of the chemist shop, Mary and Ron Newson, have moved to Tauranga and are building up a hydroponics tomato growing business, but they retain ownership of the Waiouru shop. Bruce Wilde has taken on a long term appointment to run the shop and is well known to Waimarino people and many Waiouru people as he was the previous owner-operator of the Ohakune Photo Pharmacy. He sold his interest in that shop about three years ago. Bruce has been working at a Palmerston North pharmacy until recently, travelling back to his Ohakune home
about twice a month. "I'm very pleased to be home," said Bruce. He said it has been a pleasant surprise to see so many familiar faces in the Waiouru shop. "It feels like I'm not really new at all to lots of people here." He said the emphasis in in his work in Palmerston North was on care for old people while in Waiouru children's care is more to the fore. Bruce says he is keen to help people with their photographic needs, himself being a keen and accomplished photographer. "We'd like to let people know we are here to stay," said Bruce.
