Bulletin changes hands

The Ruapehu Bulletin has new owners. Robert and Marie Milne have bought the Ruapehu Bulletin from the Auckland company Midweek Marketing Limited. "While we've been in the Waimarino just six or seven years, I think it's safe to say the Bulletin is now truly locally owned," said Robert Milne. "Despite the problems of the past few years with the publishing business, we felt it is well worth taking on.

"The support for the Bulletin is strong and we feel it has a future helping provide the link between the various sectors of the Waimarino and Waiouru community - the southern Ruapehu District." Robert Milne began working for the Waimarino Bulletin in 1984 when John Sandford was publisher, as a darkroom technician and moved into production work under the then manager Rod Gill. He took on the production

manager's job in 1986, then switched places and became editor in 1987 under the guidance of previous editor Dennis Beytagh. Marie Milne came to Ohakune in 1984 to teach at Ohakune Primary School. She became principal at Rangataua School in 1989. "We don't plan to make any great changes yet," said Robert, "except to tum what is a good community newspaper into the best little newspaper in the country."
