Waiouru chefs win student prize

A team of Waiouru Army chefs have won Student Team of the Year in the 8th National Culinary Arts Festival in Hamilton. Two teams representing the Army competed in the Student Team of the Year Competition, and both gained a place in the

final four. Both teams performed with distinction against two determined teams from the Waikato Polytechnic. Winning Waiouru team members were:Lcpl Taare, Lcpl WalcottWood, Lcpl Bolton. Team members were required to prepare a pork dish and a crepe of there choice for four

diners and two judges. In addition to the above Lcpl Taare gained first place in Waitress of the Year; Restaurant Table Setting; Guerdion Main Course; Guerdion Magic Box. Lcpl Taare also competed in the serviette folding competition where she gained a bronze medal. Army chefs competed

in other events including pork, lamb, poultry and venison magic boxes, all achieving medals in these events. Magic box competitions involve opening a box of ingredients which are unknown to the chef which he/she has an hour and a quarter in which to prepare an edible dish.
