James Allen and Phillip Hawkin want to work right through their holidays. The two Ruapehu College pupils are raising money for their "New Zealand Youth to Everest" trip to Nepal which takes place next April-May. They are well on target to raise the money they need for the trip with Phillip working for a cafe in Waiouru and James selling fire wood and doing various farm jobs. The boys will travel basically the same route on their Nepal trip but with separate parties and to different timetables. A big part of their unusual tour, which is part aid and part cultural exchange, will be working with the locals at the market town of Namche on a public toilet block and also setting up a rubbish dump and rubbish collection system. At present toilet facilities and rubbish dumping are a major health problem in the town.
