Austria trip for ski expert
Proficiency as a skier has procured one Ohakune man a place with a New Zealand delegation to Austria in January. Warren Scott, a member of the New Zealand Ski Instructors Alliance Incorporation, is one of 10 skiers who will represent this country at the 1991 Interski Congress in St Anton. New Zealand will be joined by delegates from 15 other countries, totalling around 1000 skiers and 500 spectators. The team will be demonstrating form and techniques at an advanced level and altemative ski styles including choreographed synchronized skiing, in Turn page 2

Warren and other team members, including fellow Turoa staff member Hamish McPherson, attended training camps at Mt Hutt and Whakapapa earlier in the year in preparation for the event. They will also have two weeks upon reaching Austria to practice routines. Peak physical fitness is a compulsary requirement for the team. Warren's personal fitness programme has incorporated water-ski-ing, running and gym work, and countless hours on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu. Sponsors to the team include Atomic (ski equipment), Carrera (goggles), Japanese ski company Fablice (team uniforms), and the Hilary Commission with a donation of $2500.
Team members are required to pay their own airfares while other expenses are provided for through sponsorship. Warren leaves New Zealand on 15 December, bound for Japan to train and work before the event.
