Power supply minutes lost
Consumers in the King Country Electric Power Board area lost, on average .83 minutes of electricity in October. Some of the causes ranged from a mower hitting a service pillar in Matai St, Ohakune
affecting seven consumers on October 4 from 10pm to 9am the next day for a total of 4617 minutes to birds hitting the Huia Rd substation at Hospital Hill. Taumarunui affecting 10 consumers for 907 minutes from 3pm to 4.30pm on October 27. High tension faults included ducks hitting lines in Soldiers Rd and Lakes Rd, Ohakune on October 19 and 30 and a child kicking a ball into a line in Mahoe Rd, Manunui which saw power out for 30 minutes affecting 12 consumers. Birds generally must have spent a lot of October flying around with eyes firmly shut as they were responsible for the loss of power to Reaneys in Manunui on October 28 for and hour, affecting 5 61 consumers, and on October 2 in Tokaanu affecting 3197 consumers for 10 minutes. Power boards around the country have been keeping these sorts of figures for about a year, general manager Peter Till told a board meeting in Taumarunui last Friday. He was asked what the industry generally saw as a realistic figure when reviewing consumer minutes lost. Mr Till said it varied from 10 minutes to 150 minutes per year but the King Country board would probably end up at about 20-30 minutes lost for each consumer.
