Freezing to hot on Mts run
Waiouru Primary School runner Haydon van Lent receives encouragement from supporters, as well as a welcome wet sponge in Saturday's Around the Mountains Relay, which saw almost 2000 runners pound the pavement through the day. The early runners faced the proverbial brass monkey morning while the later runners ffaced a scorcher of a day, with slower times than expected and a few minor problems. First home in the mixed grade wero the Levin Road Runners in 10:39:21; in the Men's Grade were Olympic Harriers in 10:31:21; in the Open Grade were Olympic Harriers Rebel Squad in 10:04:31; first Veterans were Hertz & Vetz in 10:51:18; 1st Women were Whizzy Wellies in 12:41:09; 1st youths were Waiouru Primary in 13:14:14. Ultra event winner (100 miles) was Gary Regtiar in 15 hours 30 minutes.
